Well that was a good two month break from blogging! More content, more frequently from now on!
Todays topic: Scams!!!
So several months ago I received an iMessage asking if i was available to shoot an event in Hamilton in May. Here is how the conversation started:
To which i responded with a detailed quote on a page I created and published on ikonimagery.ca. At this point I was already a little skeptical because I am in fact many minutes from any area that could be considered close to Hamilton. The benefit of giving the quote in the form of a link is I get to see what location the traffic comes from. San Diego.
I didn't end up saving the email with his response to the quote but the response was something to the following effect: "Everything sounds great. I'm wondering if you can do me a big favour. I've been in the hospital recovering from ear surgery. The event coordinator does not accept credit card. Could you please accept her payment with yours and then pay the coordinator...." The fee for the coordinator for this "family reunion" was $1200. He offered a $300 gratuity. I advised him that I in fact could not accept credit card or payment for others.
A week went by and no answer from "Brent". But in that time I received this text message:
I responded to "Harvey" in the same manor I did with Brent. I never did hear from him but our good friend Brent decided to check back with us. This is where things started to get funny(lewd language warning):
Oh. That's not part of the script!
So that was a bit of fun. I was really hoping that Harvey would respond with the same ear surgery story so I could share but no luck. I'll keep you posted on any new developments in the Family Reunion scam as they come up. Stay tuned for episode 2 where we discuss magazine job scams!!
